The Importance of Growth in Your Business

By Craig Calvin

Growing your business is essential, especially when you are first starting. It all starts with building your client base, and product offerings. It can sometimes be difficult to move from that mentality once your business has become established, however. It then becomes necessary for a business owner to evaluate exactly how much growth is needed at that time.

First, you need to decide if you want to be a larger business. This change would mean that your responsibilities change as well as the whole company's structure and profit. You would have to hire management, which could mean you will spend less hands on time, and more time in meetings. As your company grows, your risk for disaster does, too.

You must also think about finding quality, capable employees and management material. You will need to be able to trust them. If you already know people like this, that is great. If not, you will have to decide if you are capable of finding such help yourself.

Keep in mind that once you have employees, you will need somewhere for them to work. This means overhead of office area, phone lines, internet, etc. IT can cost a lot of money to set up a business. Loans can come in handy, but they will also take away from your profit.

The last thing to consider is whether you have time to grow right now. Building a business at a rapid rate is a time consuming process that will need to take first priority in your life. Most business owners are trying to achieve homeostasis in their life and to achieve some work-life balance, and doing this while growing a business can be next to impossible. The process can take years, so you should not undertake this at a time when your personal life is going to demand attention. You will need a solid support system in place, so make sure all other aspects of your life are solid before beginning the growing process. - 16747
