Canon responds to black dot and banding concerns

Canon has made a statement regarding concerns that have been raised about the EOS 5D Mk II. The message addresses the widely discussed 'Black Dot' and 'Vertical Banding' issues that have been reported by current and prospective owners who have been studying the camera's output. The company says it is looking into both issues and is planning to develop measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena.

To Owners of the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

Thank you for using Canon products.

We have learned that some users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera have identified two types of image quality phenomena that appear under certain shooting conditions.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) 2. Vertical banding noise

We are currently investigating and analyzing the causes, and examining measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena by providing correction firmware. An announcement will be made on www.canon-europe.com as soon as measures have been determined.

Details of the phenomena and shooting conditions under which they are likely to occur are as follows.

1. "Black dot" phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or above on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made.

2. Vertical banding noise If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background. ? Vertical banding noise is not noticeable if the recording format is set to sRAW2. ? Vertical banding noise does not occur if the recording format is set to RAW or JPEG. ? Noise can be reduced if C.Fn II-3: Highlight tone priority is set to 0: Disable.

The Power of Using Your Intuition To Attain Success In Life

Your intuition or your sixth sense is vitally important to your future success. Let us first define intuition. Intuition refers to the ability to sense or know immediately without reasoning." A good question that is often asked is how does a person improve their intuition? To answer this question I will need your help. I want you to think of someone in your life who you consider to be highly intuitive. Most people who are highly intuitive have the capacity to observe details about their surroundings and details about who they are. Let's call this hyper awareness.

When you talk to someone who is highly intuitive they tend to do more listening than talking. They observe everything you say and how you say it and more importantly what you did not say. By doing this and observing the environment in which the communication took place, they are able to read between the lines and sense more about you than you ever thought possible.

Intuition can also be applied to all aspects of life beyond communicating with others. Have you ever noticed that when you have a pressing challenge that occupies your mind for some time that somehow almost through thin air the right answer comes to you? Often we call this a hunch or inspiration. What do you do when you experience a hunch or inspiration? Do you follow through and investigate it or do you let it fall through your fingers like it never existed? Have you ever experienced getting the same hunch over and over again separated by long periods of time? When inspiration or a hunch comes to us, particularly repeatedly, this is a signal that we need to pay attention to.

Where do these hunches come from? To answer this question I'll need to involve a little bit of quantum physics. Don't worry we will not go into too many esoteric details here.

Do you realize that you and everything around us is made up of energy, space and matter? If you look at inanimate objects under a microscope you will see that they are made up of molecules, and every molecule is made up of atoms, and every atom is made up of electrons, neutrons, and protons. Each has a positive or negative electrical charge and a whole lot of space. If you continue looking under the microscope you will see that these atoms are vibrating at a high speed of vibration.

If you do not believe me let us consider an ice cube. If we add energy in the form of heat to an ice cube we'll get water. If we continue to add more heat energy to the water we will get steam. What has really changed here? At a molecular level nothing has changed, however, the ice has disappeared and has become steam in our atmosphere. What changed was the rate of vibration of the water atoms contained in the ice. Now that we understand this critical principle, I think you will agree with me that everything around us represents energy. If not, well, youll need to review your science textbooks.

If everything around us represents energy then the thoughts we have also represent energy. Correspondingly, since energy cannot be created or destroyed and it can only change its form based on the laws of thermodynamics then it is quite possible that we can pick up the energy of others and we can transmit energy to others. This has often been called telepathy. A short example is to think about people you know and have met that you got a bad vibe from. Nothing may have been said but you just knew that, that person was trouble.

If we acknowledge that it is possible to receive energy from others we must also entertain the idea that it is possible to receive energy from a source outside of human thought. Energy flows to and through us. In very much the same way that an acorn can grow into a large oak tree, you and I can take the energy that flows to and through us to take ideas in our conscious and subconscious minds and convert thought energy into its physical equivalent. The process of recognizing the energy that flows to and through us is what our intuition is all about.

If you want to become more intuitive you have to become hyperaware of who you interact with and your surroundings. You have to get in tune with reading vibrations so that you can act on your gut feelings and hunches. Your success depends on grabbing those ideas and little flashes of intuition and putting them into action in your life. - 16747

Everyone has 24 hours in a day to spend or invest, no more, no less. How you choose to use that time makes a big difference in the quality of your life. It also makes a difference in how long it takes for your goals to materialize.

How we "spend" our time

We spend time when what we do does not benefit us in the future. Watching t.v. for example is "spending time." After that program is over an hour is gone and you have nothing to show for it except a little enjoyment. The same can be said for occupying yourself with menial tasks that could be handled by another person. You have a small benefit but no lasting effects.

How we "invest" our time

Investing time is when you do something that benefits you in the future. Reading a book on your area of expertise is an example. You are giving up the time to read the book for the reward that the increased knowledge will bring you in the future. Working out is another example of investing your time. That hour on the treadmill has a lasting benefit for you by increasing your health, flexibility, strength and stamina.

Change your activities to investment activities

Once you start to look at activities as either "spending" or "investing" activities you can start to make rapid progress towards your goals. By cutting down on spending your time on unproductive activities and actions, you increase the amount of time you have to really make things happen in your life.

Take an investment / spending audit

The first thing you will want to do is take an investment / spending audit of your time. For an entire week you will write down what you spend or invest your time on, even if you just sit down and watch the news for 15 minutes. Write down everything. The easiest way to do this is to print off a time sheet from Outlook that has 15 minute intervals that encompasses your waking hours. Be honest with yourself and keep an accurate count of your activities.

Trim your "budget"

When you have your time audit completed, go through it and find where you are spending time instead of investing it. Can you cut back on the t.v. watching time, the time you spend on the phone for no real purpose or even on some of the menial chores that could be hired out? Once you have your top time wasters identified think about the activities that would move you closer to your goal in the shortest amount of time.

Convert your schedule

Take an hour and plan out your new schedule and then print it off and hang it everywhere: near the t.v., on the fridge and by your desk. You want to see this new schedule everywhere you look so that it acts as a constant reminder that you have "better" things to do with your time.

Make it happen and take action!

For your new schedule to pay dividends you must act on it and break your old time spending habits. All the good intentions in the world do nothing if you don't act on them. Everyday make sure that you are checking your schedule and doing what you have planned for that time slot. A Preview of Adobe Photoshop CS4

It appears that Adobe products are getting better and better. CS3 brought us new features such as non-destructive smart filters, quick selection, 3D compositing, enhanced RAW image processing and HDR support.

Adobe's newest software creation, Creative Suite 4, was designed to meet special challenges such as effective collaborations between designers and developers, embracing new media, reinventing publishing and embracing the explosion of connected media. Chad Seigel, Group Manager for Creative Suite has said, "Adobe is trying to break barriers and integrate all products."

Improvements to Photoshop CS4 include an enhanced user interface with the entire application enclosed in the frame, meaning that dual monitor users can have more than one application running. The workspace switcher is for swapping between applications such as Camera RAW 5 and Bridge.

Other welcome enhancements include zoom ratio which is less likely to show jagged or pixelated lines and also possesses a flicker free zoom. Now you can rotate the canvas without jagged lines and the brush size can be previewed directly on the document. Now when the tool is placed over the image it can be moved in size and you can preview it before you use it.

The Dodge/Burn tool has been improved so when you're adjusting the shadows, midtones or highlights the tool won't impose on the other two. When adjusting the saturation on the sponge tool it won't move out of acceptable gamma.

Adjustment now has its own dedicated window that includes all the tools found in the area such as levels, curves, brightness/contrast and exposure. Another change is the preview window which is now in the tab instead of a new window that overlaps the image. Because of this change your picture can be viewed in its entirety and as an added bonus tools such as curves can be adjusted directly on the image for localized amendments.

The icons have been simplified for well-organized use; now you can see what you need to use much faster than before.

One part of the existing features that's been improved upon is the clone tool. When your area is selected by stamping on it, a preview of the selected area will show on your brush. Meaning if you're cloning small detail items or subjects such as bricks, this allows you to line them up easier.

The mask panel can allow you to select an area which can be manipulated and even inverted which is good for selective colour images.

One of the more amazing features is a content aware cropping facility. It works by first masking the areas you wish to retain in the picture. The image can then be resized and the parts that are protected won't be cropped into. The program will start to remove areas in between which is an amazing feature to see and use.

An improved blend layer mode has been added and is a useful tool for techniques such as focus stacking. The program will adjust the exposure and colour automatically so there's no need to mess about first.

Please note that the images must be loaded in as layers and highlighted. Once you have done that click on Edit>Auto blend layers and the images will be composited together. Also note that you must be patient as the process can take some time.

It can also be useful to create HDR images if you prefer the ones without the ethereal effect that most systems produce.

Bryan Hughes, Photoshop Product Manager, is adamant that this isn't a HDR tool though, as it doesn't give a full high dynamic range in all areas so the familiar ethereal look of a HDR image is absent. He did add that if need be, it could be described as a clipped version of HDR.

Photoshop CS4 Extended also features 3D support. Two dimensional images can be changed to 3D by giving them x, y and z co-ordinates and these images can also be wrapped around imported 3D images. Photoshop CS4 also works in conjunction with Google 3D warehouse where thousands of 3D images are available to import. Merging a 2D image onto a 3D image is very easy with the only command being the Merge button. The 2D layer will then acquire all the 3D attributes such as decay detail, colour and reflections. The 3D image can be manipulated as well and you can also enjoy features such as creating cut-outs, adding detail or changing colours to the interior of the cut-out.

As an added bonus, a feature has been added for help with people who are colour blind. Colours in Photoshop CS4 can be adjusted for true colour blindness.

One feature missing in CS4 is the quick tools from the image window bar. When you've opened an image, right clicking on the header bar has brought up five options of duplicate, image size, canvas size, file info for metadata and page set up. I often used these, especially file info, and to find it's not there has added time to my workflow.

At the press release for Photoshop CS4 I was bursting with excitement when I saw the features it could do. The newest features such as the auto blend and content aware croping feature are astounding. I also enjoy using the localised adjustments on Lightroom 2 so it'll be really beneficial on Photoshop CS4.

Check out the upgrades box and see if you'll use all those extra features. Add to that the efficient zooming and 89 percent less drag on the mouse making it move across the screen faster.

Bear in mind that the list is for the Extended version which supports the 3D applications. If you don't need those then don't bother with Extended but as far as I'm concerned this new version is the best one yet. - 16747

The Job Interview - What to Expect

The one-on-one format is the most familiar and common in job interviewing. It's about two people sitting down to have a conversation. In this case, the conversation has a particular purpose: to determine whether there is a fit between the person interviewing, the applicant, and the job available. Both parties will leave this conversation with some kind of a judgment.

The interview begins the minute the two people see one another - the nonverbal judgment. Next, comes the handshake - weak, or firm and comfortable. The two people, the applicant and the interviewer, then sit down, usually in an office setting, and begin to converse. After a bit of chit-chat or warm up, the questions begin.

One of the first questions that is often asked to begin the conversation is, "Tell me about yourself." The information the applicant reveals as an answer to this question and throughout the interview allows the interviewer to get a picture of the person, and certain pictures or patterns begin emerge. Each time a new subject is mentioned, the interviewer may want to dig a little further, and the picture becomes more focused.

The interviewer listens to hear about past experiences that can be applied to solving the problems of the job in question through prior behavior questions such as, "Tell me about your experience with ." The applicant must be prepared to talk about achievements and past behaviors, and have examples of experiences mentioned. If the applicant says, "I am very detail-oriented," or "I am an analytical problem-solver," the applicant must have examples to back the claims.

Saying you can do something, and giving an example of when you have done it, are two different things. As an example, the applicant might say, "I have excellent written communication skills." The interviewer can now follow up on this subject. The interviewer could ask, "What type of writing have you done?" Or, "Tell me about a project you have worked on involving written communication skills?" If the applicant is not able to come up with good examples, or success stories, there may be a question in the interviewer's mind about this applicant's credibility.

Often times there will be a succession of one-on-one interviews within the same company. Interviewers are attempting to get a picture of the applicant's abilities to perform in the position that is available. They are also looking to see how the applicant would fit into the company culture. The interview process may begin with the human resources department, then move on to an interview with a prospective boss, or hiring manager. It may then continue down the line to other members of a department, and can sometimes include a CEO.

The job applicant must be able to present good examples, and tell about past successes in each one-on-one conversation. When this is done the applicant can leave the interview knowing that he or she has communicated a picture that is positive and accurate no matter how many conversations it takes. - 16747
